Setting 2017 Up For Success

With a new year comes new perspective. 2016 was a hard year for many of us and many of us are asking, “How can I make 2017 better?” The first step to making 2017 better is by looking at yourself and understanding who you are, what you want, where you want to go, and how you are going to get there.  2017 is the year to be proactive instead of reactive. When we blame others for where we are, where we are not, what we have, and what we don’t have, we are being reactive. To be successful we need to be proactive. We need to be an active participant in creating our own success.

Step 1: Define success

How do you define success? How will you know when you are successful? Is success defined by income? Impact? Relationships? Status? When success is defined by others it will never be achieved. In order to achieve success, we have to define it in terms that matter to us. What does success look like to you?

Step 2: Uncover Obstacles

What or who is standing in your way from achieving success? The answer should be nothing and no one. When you set your mind to achieving success that matters to you, you are unstoppable. If there is anything that is stopping you, it is you. Stop blaming others and look within to understand why success is not yours.

Step 3: Steps to Success

What do you need to do to become successful? What steps and in what direction do you need to go in order to achieve the success that you deserve? What plan are you following? The plan is key. You have to set a plan that you follow in order to get from here to there. With a plan you will be able to know when you are on track and when you have fallen off track. A plan holds you accountable and provides a timeline for you to follow.

Step 4: Support

Success is yours to achieve but you don’t have to do it alone. Tell friends and family of your success plan. Work with a coach or a mentor who will help keep you accountable to your plan and help you achieve success you deserve.
